Bend

Bend is an exploration of the female form through performative self-portraits. By obscuring the face through composition, I am experimenting with the importance of identity, the pressure of performance and self, and how distorting my female body generates an aesthetic enquiry. Shooting within the domestic setting and incorporating the shutter release, I am experimenting with contorted poses and performance in response to the stereotypical portrayal of women. This is not a political or ethical interrogation; I am simply creating a space where I can play without the pressures of the male gaze or the need to perform for or against it.
