Street Portraiture
My project documents through photography people in different city centres, walking with purpose and direction though represented as aimless wanderers. Through this approach to image making, my project explore the concept of the ‘Fortuitous.’ Which I define as accidental encounters; this connects to the feeling of belonging somewhere yet not appearing to fit in. I wander around city centres with no main focus other than photographing people who capture my interest. Walking around familiar cities, I constantly see things from a unique perspective. My project delves deeper into the experimentation of colour signifiers, as a photographer walking around city centres, I saw many dull appearances with splashes of colour capturing my attention and interest, loosely using psycho-geography as a walking method, which allows me to observe the world and people within through dress or portage. This also led me to photographing using the idea of colours within the frame and landscape; it is not always bright colours but distinct colours within one frame that captured my eye. This method of image making connects to the idea of a tourist, as like they take images of landmarks that interest them, I take images of people.
